How we told our family we were FINALLY expecting!

I was 8 weeks pregnant when we decided to tell my family.  Before we get started you may all be wondering why we told our family so early? Or that we are crazy for telling everyone so early in case there was the chance of losing it.  While yes most people wait, we decided that it was our decision to tell our family early.  We have been trying for 4 1/2 years and have had some struggles so when we were finally reading a positive test I knew that I couldn't hold it in anymore and I wanted to tell my family so I could talk to people about the pregnancy and the symptoms I was feeling and if they were normal symptoms or not.  It eased my anxiety self by just telling people so I could converse since it was my first one and I am terrified of loosing it.  So now that we have that out of the way here is out we told Derek's family.

We wanted to get everyone together but didn't want it to seem out of the normal because then they might be thinking that we had some big news.  Derek's parents live in a town home community and have a community pool, it was almost the end of the season right before they closed it for the winter so we decided to say that we wanted to do an end of season pool party before it closes.  They all agreed except for two of Derek's sisters, one had a sick family, and the other lives in Las Vegas.  We racked our brains of how to tell everyone in a cool way that had to do with the pool.  We were browsing at our local store and found the best idea ever!  We all showed up at Derek's parents, and his mom being the antsy one that we love wanted to get over to the pool before we had a chance to share it the way we wanted so we changed our plans.  We all went to the pool and waited for Derek's brothers family to show up.  Once they showed up Derek went and got our secret weapon.  We had found a cute little blow up floaty that Derek pulled out of the box and handed it to his mom, on the side of the pool, and said "Mom, can you blow this up for us?"  She then said, "I can try." Derek that said, "well you don't have to do it right away you have at least 9 months to do it and we will need it done before June 2015."  His mom just screamed and was so excited along with the rest of his family.  It was so exciting.  We took a picture of us with the floaty so that we could send it to the rest of his family that wasn't able to be there.

When we sent it do Derek's family that wasn't able to be there we said, "we just wanted to let you know that there will be a new captain taking over this ship in June-ish 2015."

For my family we wanted to do it a different way since we couldn't show up in our swimsuits and a floaty.  We thought forever and ever about what to do.  We were hoping that we would have found out a couple weeks earlier when we did family pictures because then we were going to hold up a sign as the photographer took the picture and then have the photographer show them the picture.  But we didn't know so on to plan B.  For this one it was a pretty simple idea but a cute idea.  We purchased plain white shirts and wrote with a sharpie on them.  Then when we showed up at my parents house we had sweatshirts on and started talking about life and told them about us moving.  We said that "we decided that we kind of needed a different house that was bigger because we were going to be filling it a little bit sooner than we thought."  At that moment we unzipped our sweatshirts and unveiled our t-shirts. And here is what they said:

To say my family was shocked is an understatement! My mom did not believe that we were serious, but once they finally realized that we were serious they were super excited!!

It's About Time!!

**Disclaimer: Thanks to a great friend (Tori Curtis) I have decided to come back to blogging to document the fun adventures that are ahead of us!**

Derek and I are so excited to announce that we are PREGNANT!! We are so excited and couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity to be pregnant.  I wanted to take a minute to share how we found out we were pregnant.

We have been trying to get pregnant for 5 years now.  Well I guess we can't really say trying trying we just haven't been preventing it for 5 years and really trying for 3 years.  Yeah I know a little confusing.  However, we have been wanting kids for so long and had to wait patiently for our chance.  We recently found a really awesome doctor that we just love that helped us to get pregnant.  He had us on a very specific regimen that I won't get into but let's just say that it must have worked.  Plus the timing must be right for us now.

So on to the story.  I had been feeling super sick at the end of August and I wasn't sure what it was.  I didn't automatically think that it was pregnancy because it felt more like a stomach bug than pregnancy.  However, me being who I am and so ready to be pregnant was still hopeful that we were so I took a pregnancy test about 4 days before my next cycle.  I took the test and waited and waited for the results to come still hating these pregnancy test because I swear they don't work correctly, expect for this time was different and there was hope.  The test finally showed up and there was a really faint line.  I was excited because I had NEVER seen a line there before and I knew this time was different.  However, my husband wasn't so sure as I was.  He told me to take another test because he wasn't sure that was a real line.  So I took another test that afternoon and unfortunately the test was negative and all of that hope was immediately gone and I was super discouraged.  I didn't immediately remove that positive test out of my head but just put it on the back burner.  That weekend our friends had come over to our house to hang out and I was talking to my two girlfriends and told them the story and they told me not to loose hope yet.  My one friend that is a nurse told me that your hormone level that the pregnancy test reads is always stronger in the morning than it is in the afternoon so I just could be pregnant but not far enough along yet that the hormone shows up all the time.  She told me to take another pregnancy test in a couple of days.  So waited patiently but still hopeful that I could be pregnant.  So those next few days went by so slowly and Tuesday (two days after my cycle was supposed to start) finally came around.  Unfortunately, I had to wake up and go to the bathroom and 3:00am and decided what better time than then to take a test.  So I did and boy I have never seen as bright of a line that I did that day.  The time had finally come all of our patience and waiting it out was finally here.  We are PREGNANT!!  I wasn't sure if I wanted to wake Derek up that early because we had to work the next day but I guess I didn't come into bed quietly enough because he woke up.  He said, "are you doing okay?"  "Uh-huh!" I said.  "Did you take a test?" Derek asked.  "Uh-huh!" I exclaimed trying to hide the excitement.  Derek then said, "AND...?"  All I could say at that moment was "uh-huh!!!"  He was shocked! Half deliriousness from it being 3:00 in the morning and half because he couldn't believe that we were actually pregnant.  Needless to say we didn't sleep the rest of the night.

One of the first pregnancy tests with the first positive sign!

We are so extremely grateful for this blessing to come into our lives and couldn't be more excited.  Also, a little unsure this is actually happening for us now.  I am not going to lie I have taken a few pregnancy tests since then just to make sure I was still pregnant.

Since this is so long already I will tell you tomorrow about how we told our families.

Surprise Date Night!!!

Last night Derek surprised me with an amazing date night. I got home and he jumped out of no where and put my scarf on my head and told me to close my eyes and not to peek. This didn't work out too well because the scarf had holes in it and I could see so he grabbed a towel from his back seat and but that over my head.

He drove around and around taking roads left and right and confusing me so I wouldn't know where we were going.  With all of his stopping and going and turning I got really car sick, I almost puked.  We finally arrived at our stop.  I had no clue where we were or what we were doing, other than we were going to eat first.  With all the bumps we were hitting and slow moving and stopping and going I thought we were in the mountain some where.  Little did I know we were in downtown Layton.  Derek came to the car to let me out but still told me to close my eyes, so I kept my eyes closed the whole way.  I was proud of myself for not peeking it is so hard for me to not know where we were going.  I suddenly heard country music playing and I was trying to figure out what restaurant we were at.  I didn't know until we sat down and he let me open my eyes.  We had arrived at Texas Roadhouse.  I was so excited!! I looked on the table and there were these beautiful flowers on the table.  I was very impressed.  Underneath the flowers were two tickets the a movie, The Host.

My handsomly, awesome, amazing husband!!! And the beautiful flowers.

Us at the movie The Host.  It was actually pretty good, a little long but good.

It was so nice to have a night to just Derek and I.  I love my husband so much, he is so amazing to me and treats me so great.  Thanks Derek for the wonderful night!

ALOHA!!!

YAY!! We are finally on our way to Hawaii!! We are so excited.  We are sitting here waiting at the airport.  We got here a little bit early which is okay to make sure that we made it to the flight one time.  I don't want to miss this flight.  The flight today is 7 hours.  That is a really long flight but I think it will be okay.  When we get there to Hawaii we are going to go pick up a car then head to our hotel.  We are staying at the Marriot in Waikiki.  I am so excited just to land and see the beautiful Hawaii that everyone talks about.  I just wanted to say thank you to Derek for letting us go on this wonderful vacation.  I am so excited to spend some quality time with him.  Keep checking back for updates on what fun adventures we go on!!!

Update!

I wanted to take a couple of minuets to post a little update on our lives.  Derek is still going to school this is his second to last semester in school.  We are so excited to have him almost be done.  We were talking about moving to California when he was done with school, however, we thought more and more about it and decided that it would be best if we stayed here in Utah.  Hopefully something great is in our future here.  We are hoping to start a family soon so hopefully we will have some exciting news, however it is not yet so don't get too excited.

Derek and I are leaving for Hawaii on Friday for our anniversary!! We are so excited to head to Hawaii and enjoy some warmth and alone time ;).  We will be gone for 8 days and we are doing a whole ton of fun stuff!  I will post pictures and stories later.  We have been saving our money for 3 years to be able to go on this trip and we are going to be living like King's and Queens.  We are first heading to the island of Oahu and then heading to Maui where we will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary.

Well those are the main updates right now.  We are just loving our life and having so much fun with friends and family.  We have been spending a lot of time with friends and we are absolutely loving it!  We have been able to do some fun things with some really great people!  We hope to have some more fun times ahead!

Wonderful Weekend!

We had such a wonderful weekend, full of good times and good friends!  On Thursday we went to a private screening of Breaking Dawn Part 1, and it was very good! There were a couple of parts I didn't like but for the most part it was really good.  Then on Friday we went to the gym and did a great workout and then hung out together.  Saturday was my favorite day of the weekend! The first part of the day we went to Cody and Amber's and took their family pictures, they turned out so great and I just love their family.  Then we went straight home and I had to change to head to the gym with Jerkya Tolman for our workout session.  We had a great session and a great workout! It felt great to have a good workout, although my body is not loving it.  I am so sore today I can't believe it.  Derek had his first workout session in a long time, we think he actually pulled a muscle in his back so he is in a little bit of pain.  Then we ran home and started cooking Thanksgiving dinner because we were having a bunch of friends over for Thanksgiving dinner.  We have such great friends and it was so great to spend quality time with friends that are basically family.  We slept over at Derek's parents house Saturday night because Derek had the opportunity to go learn how the Tabernacle choir does their broadcasts from behind the scenes. He really enjoyed it and learned so much and thought it was a great experience.  I am grateful that he was able to do that.  I wish I could have gone.

I am so excited for this week!! Not only do I only work two days this week Monday and Tuesday but we are heading to California with my family for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  I will post lots of pictures and tell you all about it.  I am not sure how much fun it will be because we are going for my brother Matt's soccer tournament but we will be with family and I am just excited to get away with my husband for a little bit!

Frustrated

So I am really frustrated with myself, and I only have myself to blame.  I haven't been to the gym for a week and a half because life has just been so crazy busy and I haven't had time.  However, I could have made time and taken an hour out of my day but I didn't and I paid for it big time last night!  I went to the gym last night for a training session with my personal trainer and it was the worst training ever!!! I could hardly do anything I used to I am so weak now and I have no stamina.  I am so upset that I didn't just go to the gym I could have lost a lot of weight by now but no I decided not to.  All this is going to change starting yesterday.  It is my goal to be at the gym every night and eat right everyday.  I am going to loose these extra pounds and I am not going to let myself go that long again!

Update!

Wow it has defiantly been a long time! I always get on here to look at everyone else's blogs but never seem to take the time to update my own. That is all going to change.  Now that I have a job where I am on the computer all day doing nothing I have no excuse to not update my blog! So here goes trying to update it everyday!

Derek:  Can I just start by saying how proud I am of him and what he has accomplished? He is the most amazing man I have ever met.  He works so hard to provide for me and give me the best life possible.  He is a SUPERMAN!! The update with him is that he just got a job with Fox 13 working as a camera man for their morning news.  The only bad side is that his hours are from 4:30a.m. to 7:30a.m.  He had his first day today and he really enjoyed it! So now he has a full time job, full time school, and a part time job.  He is working so hard and I am so proud of him! I am so grateful for him being able to obtain a job with Fox 13 so that he can get his foot in the door and hopefully when he graduates we will be able to get a great paying job.  When he went in for his interview they couldn't believe his experience and said that he was over qualified for the job which is great because hopefully they will be able to move him up quickly.  He is going to school for Broadcasting and will hopefully graduate in the fall of next year.  He was lucky enough to get the News Directing position up at Weber State University which he was able to get a scholarship for.  He also received a scholarship from KSL for Broadcasting which means his whole tuition is paid for which is awesome!  He is doing so awesome and I am so grateful to call him mine!

Kristin:  Well my life isn't as exciting as Derek's.  I decided to receive my associates in school and stop going to school to support my husband.  I am working full time at Matchbin also known as Radiate Media.  Our company just changed names.  My title is Marketing Coordinator but I am really just a receptionist/office slave. lol.  I do whatever people need help with and answer the phones.  I really love my job and it has been a blast to work at.  Plus the pay is great!  I have also started going to the gym and hopefully start loosing weight.  It has been three months since I have started and I haven't been doing so great.  I started out strong but then started slowing down.  That is all going to change because on top of keeping up on the blog I am also going to start writing about my weight loss journey.  I became inspired by a family friend who is doing this and seems like it really helps to write out about your journey.  I am going to kick butt at this and loose weight.

Well I think that is the lastest about us.  Keep coming back for more information!

The Kings Speech

Last night Derek and I went to the Kaysville Theater and watched "The Kings Speech." it was surprisingly really good! We really enjoyed it. I thought it would be a little boring but it turned out to be humorous with a good strong story.

Here is a picture of Derek and I at the movie.

I just love spending time with my husband. Next Wednesday is his birthday and I can wait to spend it with him. Although we don't have a lot of money it is the time that counts. ;)

We are rich!! Well sort of... We did a deal with our photography company yesterday and with KSL.  It was a daily deal where it runs for 24 hours and there is a certain amount of packages that have to be sold before the deal is on.  Well yesterday we sold 209 packages at $30 a piece! We were so amazed that we received that many and are so grateful that we did.  Our calendars are filling up with appointments and it is so fun to see our business finally growing!! I am so excited for what lies ahead.  Thank you to our wonderful friends and family for spreading the word and for KSL allowing us to do this with them.  Stay tuned for some fun things that are happening this weekend for my birthday!! I will be 21!  Love you guys!

4th of July

What a weekend! I love the 4th of July weekend! It is so much fun to be with friends and family, as well as to watch parades and fireworks.  What fun!  On friday we just hung out and got things ready for Saturday. Saturday morning our friends Zach and AnDe Buchi came over for breakfast we had eggs and pancakes then left for the parade.  It was a lot of fun, it was our first Clearfield city parade and it wasn't bad, it was fun. Then that afternoon we just relaxed and hung out we actually took the dogs for a walk, we haven't done that for awhile, they enjoyed it but were definitely out of shape like their parents.  Then Zach and AnDe came over again and we headed off to dinner at Gaboro Brothers in Layton.  It was so good!  Then AnDe was craving Red Mango (she is pregnant so we need to go where the pregnant lady is craving! jk) so we went there before we headed over to the park to watch fireworks.  We got to the fireworks pretty early so we took some games over and played games until they started.  The firework were really good and it was so much fun to spend the day with the Buchi's.  They are such wonderful friends and are so grateful they moved in to our neighborhood.  Sunday we went to church then went over to Derek's parents for dinner as well as did Fireworks with the kids before they went home.  They loved the fireworks a couple pictures below taken from my iPhone.  Monday morning we went back over to Derek's parents for breakfast and swimming with the kids!  It was so much fun then that night we went boating with his parents again.  The water was really choppy so we couldn't do much, however Kami tried kneeboarding and did such a fabulous job we were proud of her.  When we got home from boating we headed to my parents to see them, you know trying to work out the whole holidays thing with family can be hard.  But we do what we can.  That was basically our wonderful holiday weekend in a nutshell.  I hope everyone else had a fabulous holiday as well!!

SUMMER!

Ah I am so excited it is summer! Summer is my favorite month.  Not just because it is my birthday but because there are so many holidays and so many chances to get together with friends and family! I just love it.  I love BBQ's and Fires and camping and so many things.  So far we have had a great summer.  Last weekend Derek went off to Scout Camp with the Young Men in our ward and I stayed home.  On Saturday we had two wonderful family reunions and it was just wonderful to be with family that I haven't seen for a while and also to meet new family that I haven't met.  Both reunions were for Derek's side of the family.  He has such a wonderful family and I just love being a part of it.  So about my birthday, there is less than a month until I am 21 and I am pretty excited.  It is not a huge deal but I can't wait to say that I am not 20 anymore.  For some reason it is hard for me to say that I like being able to say 21.  Since all of our friends are older than me it is nice to be one year older and closer to their age, but oh well!  So all in all I am super excited for it to be summer, lots of pictures to come so be excited!!

Square Dancing

So I don't know I have had said this but Derek and I were asked to be Ma and Pa on Trek this year in our ward.  We are excited to have been asked this but I am kind of nervous.  It will be weird because just four years ago I was just on Trek with my stake and now to be a Ma will be kind of weird, and I am like three or four years older than that oldest ones going so it will be different.  However, I am excited because I won't have to work as hard because I am a Ma. ;)  Anyways, this week for Young Men Young Womens, they did Stake Square Dancing and it was a lot of fun.  It was nice to see the youth in our ward have a good time doing old pioneer dances.  I am really excited to see how they do on Trek.  Our Trek is August 18-21, which is the week before school starts and it is the middle of August which will be really hot.  But that is okay we will have fun!

Update!

Wow! I didn't realize how long it has been since I have written a post.  Well here is an update. Derek and I finished school the middle of April, and we have been working and enjoying not having school work or tests ever since.  Derek recently got the calling in our ward of Scout Master along with his other calling of Young Men's Second Counselor.  He is a pretty busy guy with that and all of his summer scout outings.  We will see how well I do without him home for those times.  As for myself, I just started another job with this new company selling jewelry, the company is called Jewels by Park Lane.  It is really fun and we do parties kind of like Scentsy or Mary Kay but it is jewelry and everyone loves jewelry.  If anyone is interested in buying some or having a party to help me out please let me know!  I wanted to start this so that we could pay off our bills and hopefully start a family soon so I would appreciate any help I could get.

A couple days ago I was thinking about my life and what I want for myself.  So I have come up with a couple of goals that I have in mind for the summer as well as the end of the year.  My first goal is to loose weight and to get back in shape.  In conjunction with this I am going off sugar!  That's right sugar, it is going to be super super hard but I have faith that I can do it.  So wish me luck!  The other goal is to have us get all of our bills paid off by the end of the year.  This is going to be hard as well but that is why I got this other job so that I can work my bum off and pay off our debts.  The other goal I have is to write in this blog at least once a week and hopefully I will be able to keep up with that.

Well, that is all thanks for all of your guys' love and support!

1 Year Anniversary/Valentine's Day!

On Sunday February 14, 2010 we celebrated our 1 year anniversary of being married! Oh what an amazing year it has been. We have had our ups and downs but all together it has been amazing! Our celebrated our anniversary on Monday since we couldn't really do anything on Sunday. However, on Sunday we had the opportunity to sing in Sacrament meeting together as a couple. We sang amazingly for it being our first time singing together. Then after church, we gave each other presents. Derek gave me a very pretty heart shaped necklace, I love it it was beautiful. He also gave me a gift certificate to Olive Garden which we used on Monday to celebrate our anniversary along with a box of candy and 3 movies. Sweet Home Alabama, The Proposal, and The Notebook. All cute chick flicks to do with Valentine's Day. I got him a new PS3 game called 007 Quantum of Solace and some other men products. Then on Monday we celebrated by going to Olive Garden for lunch and then to see Percy Jackson: The Lighting Thief or however you say it. It was pretty good definately a kid movie but still pretty good. We had the wonderful opportunity to take work off on Friday so we had the whole weekend to spend with each other and just relax it was amazing. Now we have to go back to work and school and continue or busy lives. Not excited about that one but oh well. I am so grateful for my husband and the wonderful life he has given me he is the best I could ever ask for and I can't wait to see what the rest of our lives will be like. I love you baby thanks for an amazing first year!!

School :(

So I was enjoying school, until it has become more busy and more time consuming. I feel like all we ever do is go to school then go to work then come home and work on homework. School, school, school, school, school. When can we ever just have a break for us and not think or worry about anything else? Oh well, I guess that is just how life goes. It is either work and school, or work and kids. I guess I will take work and school for now at least I don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to crying. I guess I just solved my own problems by venting out on here. Now that you know my frustrations and I got those off my chest, I should be grateful for the life I have and grateful for what I have been given. Hopefully the next post will be more happy and uplifting. Thanks for taking the time to read my frustrations. Love you all!

Update!

Hello Everyone! Sorry it has been so long since we have posted a new post. We have been so crazy busy the last few months. First exciting thing is we finally bought a house, after four months of trying we were able to successfully buy a house! (Pictures to come soon after I fix it up a little bit more). We are absolutely loving our house and our neighborhood everyone is so friendly and welcoming. After two weeks of being in our new ward they put us right to work, they called both Derek and I into the Activities committee then about a month ago they gave us new callings. I am the Activities Chairperson and Derek is in the Young Mens Presidency as the Second Counselor. I haven't done much with my calling yet but Derek is absolutely loving his. He had to give his first lesson yesterday and he said it really well and that he loves teaching. Derek and I both started school again in January and we are both going back to our original degrees, Derek is thinking about going back to communications and I am going back to Interior Design. I love this semester it has been really good. We are back to going to school during the morning which is better for me because I focus better. About two weeks before we moved into our new house we bought a new puppy for Rudi to have a friend with at our new house. He is very cute, he is a mix we think he is a Dauchen Terrier Mix. His name is Patches because he has one paw that is white. Here is a picture of him.

In a couple of weeks, Derek and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary of being married! We are so excited to celebrate this happy day and can not believe that we are already celebrating it. We have had a wonderful year full of ups and downs but most of all we have grown so much as a couple. I am so grateful for him in my life and I am not sure where I would be if I didn't have him in my life. He is so amazing and has made me a better person and I have had a better life with him. I am not sure what we are doing for our year so it will be a surprise but I will post about it. Well I think that is about it for now. More to come, I promise I will update more ;)

Camping and a Fun Date!

So a couple of weeks ago we had the spur of the moment thought to go camping on a Thursday night. We came home after work packed up our stuff and took of up to Bountiful Peek to go camping! It was so fun and so nice to be with each other out in the woods! Derek made an awesome fire and we roasted hot dogs and had smores! We had to wake up at 5:45 the next morning to get home and shower and go to work. We love doing spur of the moment things and this was a fun trip.

A cool fire picture that a took, we were mesmerized by the fire.

The new Sunkist model!!!

Then Friday night we decided to go out on date. We went to McGrath's fish house in Layton and then went and saw the Proposal! It was such a fun night!

The BEES Game

On Saturday, Derek and I and a few friends, went to the Salt Lake BEES game! It was a blast, we went with Kendon and Stefanie, Russell and Kate, Cameron and Lorna and Bradly! The BEES finally won a game and it was fun to watch! After the game they had fireworks and it was one of the best shows we have seen in a long time! It was a great way to end the summer. After the game we let our friends who we rode with go home because they looked pretty tired and hoped on the Trax and rode those home! Once on the train we realized that we didn't have a car at the station and were stranded. It was 11:30 at night and his parents had gone to bed so we didn't want to wake them. I had the idea to call our fabulous wonderful neighbors, Jason and Jen Anderson. They saved our bums and came and got us! We were so thankful that we didn't have to walk home at 12:30 at night! We have learned our lesson for next time!
